Lapathon 2007

Lapathoners Zachary and HaydenThe Old Mill School Lapathon will be held on Sunday, October 21st, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. If you're new to Old Mill, the Lapathon is the PTA's main fundraiser for the year and is also just a flat-out great time. Old Mill students don themed T-shirts designed by one of the fifth graders and circumnavigate the school, raising money for each lap. Parents volunteer to count laps, dole out water, staff the barbecue grill, and perform many other incredibly helpful functions. Everyone (kids, parents, staff and stray relatives) spends the day listening to great music, feasting at the BBQ, and just generally chilling out and enjoying our great community.

Money raised at Lapathon accounts for over half of the PTA's annual budget. It covers assemblies, teacher stipends, program grants, drama grants, art and science supplies, technology repairs and updates and more. Additionally, there are always capital items to make Old Mill a better place -- the Leslie Wachtel Reading Garden, the umbrellas that shade the lunch tables, and the air conditioners for the lower classrooms were all bought with Lapathon funds. So, needless to say, we will need abundant participation from all our walkers and their parents!

Don't worry, you don't need to sign up for anything now. In your Fall "First Day Packets" you will find a Lapathon volunteer flier, and we encourage you to sign up then for whatever job sounds most thrilling to you. For now, we just want to say we look forward to seeing you there and thank you in advance for supporting our PTA! If you have any questions, call Lapathon co-chairs Jules Campfield (381.5956) or Heather Young (388.5899).
